چکیده

There are many speech and language processing problems which require cascaded classification tasks. While model adaptation has been shown to be useful in isolated speech and language processing tasks, it is not clear what constitutes system adaptation for such complex systems. This paper studies the following questions: In cases where a sequence of classification tasks is employed, how important is to adapt the earlier or latter systems? Is the performance improvement obtained in the earlier stages via adaptation carried on to later stages in cases where the later stages perform adaptation using similar data and/or methods? In this study, as part of a larger scale multiparty meeting understanding system, we analyze various methods for adapting dialog act segmentation and tagging models trained on conversational telephone speech (CTS) to meeting style conversations. We investigate the effect of using adapted and unadapted models for dialog act segmentation with those of tagging, showing the effect of model adaptation for cascaded classification tasks. Our results indicate that we can achieve significantly better dialog act segmentation and tagging by adapting the out-of-domain models, especially when the amount of in-domain data is limited. Experimental results show that it is more effective to adapt the models in the latter classification tasks, in our case dialog act tagging, when dealing with a sequence of cascaded classification tasks. 2009 Elsevier Ltd. A Cascaded Linear Model for Joint Chinese Word Segmentation and Part-of-Speech Tagging

We propose a cascaded linear model for joint Chinese word segmentation and partof-speech tagging. With a character-based perceptron as the core, combined with realvalued features such as language models, the cascaded model is able to efficiently utilize knowledge sources that are inconvenient to incorporate into the perceptron directly. Experiments show that the cascaded model achieves improved...

Automatic Dialog Act Corpus Creation from Web Pages

This work presents two complementary tools dedicated to the task of textual corpus creation for linguistic researches. The chosen application domain is automatic dialog acts recognition, but the proposed tools might also be applied to any other research area that is concerned with dialogs processing. The first software captures relevant dialogs from freely available resources on the World Wide ...

An improved joint model: POS tagging and dependency parsing

Dependency parsing is a way of syntactic parsing and a natural language that automatically analyzes the dependency structure of sentences, and the input for each sentence creates a dependency graph. Part-Of-Speech (POS) tagging is a prerequisite for dependency parsing. Generally, dependency parsers do the POS tagging task along with dependency parsing in a pipeline mode. Unfortunately, in pipel...

Speaker adaptation of language models for automatic dialog act segmentation of meetings

Dialog act (DA) segmentation in meeting speech is important for meeting understanding. In this paper, we explore speaker adaptation of hidden event language models (LMs) for DA segmentation using the ICSI Meeting Corpus. Speaker adaptation is performed using a linear combination of the generic speakerindependent LM and an LM trained on only the data from individual speakers. We test the method ...

Dialog act tagging with support vector machines and hidden Markov models

We use a combination of linear support vector machines and hidden markov models for dialog act tagging in the HCRC MapTask corpus, and obtain better results than those previously reported. Support vector machines allow easy integration of sparse highdimensional text features and dense low-dimensional acoustic features, and produce posterior probabilities usable by sequence labelling algorithms....
